Biocides


A biocide is a chemical substance or microorganism. It may instead deter, render harmless, prevent the action of or otherwise exert a controlling effect on any harmful organism by chemical or biological means.
Biocides, for example, disinfectants, preservatives, including wood preservatives, and agents against a variety of pests (rodents, insects, repellents, attractants, etc.).

If company place biocidal products on our country's market, they have to submit to the State Environment Services (www.vvd.gov.lv)
information what is required in national legislation: Regulation of the Cabinet of Ministers of the
Republic of Latvia No. 184 of April 15, 2003 "Requirements of for Handling of Biocidal Products". The LEGMC preparing a statement for biocides products.

Currently Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LEGMC) is a Competent Authority for the implementation of the Biocidal Products Directive 98/8/EC. The LEGMC preparing an inventory of the biocidal products placed on the Latvian market.
This is essential for finding out clarification of the situation regarding biocidal products on the Latvian market.
